There are legal regulations and laws concerning death certification and coronial procedures when a death occurs in a nursing home or aged care facility. Death is to be verified and depending on which state or territory you are in. Certification of death must occur which is usually by the General Practitioner. In some instances deaths must be reported to the coroner.

If a nursing home or other aged care facility requests you to nominate a funeral director for when the time comes, simply inform them of eziFunerals and our 24 hour contact phone number. We can help you in the selection of a caring funeral director who can assist you at short notice.

If your parent/s is in good health, we recommend that you plan the funeral in advance with eziFunerals FREE online funeral planner. You can download the details of the desired funeral arrangements and activate at time of need. This may also be given to the nursing home.

Notifying you of the death

When a death occurs, the Nursing Staff will contact the Doctor and notify you of the death. The funeral director you have chosen will then liaise with you to coordinate the removal of the body and the completion of the death certificate.

Contacting a Funeral Director

The staff at the care facility will likely be able to begin the process of issuing a death certificate, though you will need a licensed funeral director to complete the death certificate and remove the body from the care facility.

Removing The Body From The Residence

Legally, most nursing homes and aged care facilities must remove the body from their premises immediately. This means that you will need to engage the services of a funeral director very quickly.
