Academy Funerals was created in 1998 influenced by the monopoly at the time of American Funeral business purchasing a majority of the Australian businesses and then trading them in an American style which was sales orientated and based on higher costs. Ashley Bergh and his wife Katrina felt that Australians were not given a fair go and because it is an industry many of us don’t like to talk about, the general public were not aware that even though they thought they were shopping around, all the directors locally may have been owned by the one parent American company trading under different names.
Hence, Academy Funerals was born. Academy Funerals has stayed close to it’s values of providing family service in a modest and humble way allowing more money to be left with the family rather than being spent on an elaborate funeral. Although, we are happy to arrange an elaborate send off as much as a simple one, but, only when instructed by the family. Each and every family we serve ultimately is the decision maker of the style of funeral and therefore, it’s final cost.`

I can highly recommend Ashley and Academy Funerals. The process was seamless, the price very good, the interactions were great and provision and receipt of paperwork was all done via email. Ashley even provided a number of certified copies of the death certificate which was greatly appreciated.
Writing a review is something I have never done. I can not put into words the amount of respect and gratitude I have for Robin and Academy funerals. I never felt rushed, prodded, or like it was business as usual. Robin took the time to explain everything in detail. He was available 24/7 by phone even during the holidays, Robin really showed his excellence for me when he stepped away from his own family and arranged multiple viewings for us. He was extremely accommodating to all of our requests. He consistently checked up on us during each viewings to make sure that things were going smoothly and to see if we were going ok. Robin and staff are what every grieving family needs to give your loved one the best care possible.
At this most difficult time, Academy Funerals were most accommodating and caring in their approach and care for our loved one. I commend Ashley, Robin and the team to anyone looking for a caring and supportive funeral director who preempted our needs and provided gentle and appropriate guidance to us. They managed to deal with an 60+ motorcycle escort to the chapel/cemetery and dealt with the day with decorum and care. Academy Funerals is a family business which is locally owned and operated. Absolutely outstanding. Losing my Dad to Cancer has been really hard but Robin made the process of sorting the funeral very easy. I would recommend Academy Funerals to all. They are Australian family owned and Robin was kind, respectful and considerate to our family at a most difficult time.
