While we know that cremation rates have been increasing in Australia, what many people don’t know is that some people take cremation and memorialisation a step further.

Instead of scattering their loved ones’ ashes or saving them in an urn, many people now converting the ashes into diamonds and specially made jewellery that they wear all the time.

However, others take the idea of keeping their loved one with them at all times to an entirely new level by using the cremation ashes, or cremains, for body art.

Cremation tattoos are created by infusing a small amount of your loved one’s ashes into tattoo ink. The ink is then used in the same fashion as it would be during a regular tattoo.

According to Cremation Ink, cremation tattoo artists simply blend in a very small amount of cremains into tattoo ink prior to applying the artwork to the client.

The needle injects the ash infused ink into the middle layer of skin, creating the permanent design, and allowing the ashes to be embedded within the motif.

Many people are utilising ash infused ink to create tattoos for pets and deceased loved ones in an effort to still feel connected to the one they lost.

Getting a memorial tattoo using your loved one’s cremated ashes may not be for everyone. However, if you feel that a cremation ash tattoo is something you would consider, do your homework and contact reputable tattoo artists who are experienced and understand your needs.
